TORONTO-BASED TRIO TO PERFORM THEIR HOMETOWN RECORD RELEASE SHOW OCT. 4TH BEFORE HEADING WEST FOR NOVEMBER CALIFORNIA DATES

THREE METRE DAY is an acoustic modern roots trio created by players Hugh Marsh, Don Rooke and Michelle Willis. The sound of the band features original songs sung in combination with old instruments, forming a strong, intimate and identifiable texture. The parts are so interwoven it’s hard to distinguish one instrument from another. Michelle sings and plays portable pump organ, Don slide guitars, and Hugh, violin.

Starting with a basis in folk music, the band draws on its years of experience playing in a variety of settings including jazz (Don Byron, Jon Hassell), alternative (Mary Margaret O’Hara), folk (Bruce Cockburn, Loreena McKennitt) and modern roots (The Henrys), to forge something distinctly their own.

THREE METRE DAY’S debut full-length album Coasting Notes, which also features Davide DiRenzo (drums) and David Piltch (acoustic bass), will be released in Canada October 4th, and in the U.S. November 1st in CD and Digital formats through the band’s own label imprint, 3MD.

CRACKER & CVB TO PERFORM THEIR SIGNATURE ALBUMS KEROSENE HAT & KEY LIME PIE IN THEIR ENTIRETIES IN SCOTTSDALE, LOS ANGELES & CAMPOUT!

Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven will be rolling into the Joshua Tree region of California next month to co-host their 7th annual CAMPOUT music festival.

CAMPOUT will take place September 15th, 16th and 17th at Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace in the High Desert of Southern California. The locale of this fest ties in perfectly with Cracker’s own history as their signature album Kerosene Hat was recorded here back in 1993 in the now-closed movie soundstage next to the Palace.

Previous CAMPOUT’s have hosted a broad range of indie, alternative, blues and country acts and this year’s bill features the talents of Heavy Cream, He’s My Brother She’s My Sister, The Calamity and Gram Rabbit’s The Country. Along with full band performances from both Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven (performing their respective signature albums Kerosene Hat & Key Lime Pie in their entireties), there will also be a number of performances from various members of both bands, including Jonathan Segel, The Hickmen, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Johnny Hickman’s pre-Cracker band The Dangers and a special David Lowery/Johnny Hickman semi-acoustic duo set.

Seattle, Washington-based Kasey Anderson & The Honkies will re-release their debut full-length, Heart of a Dog, on September 27, 2011 via a joint venture between Portland, Oregon-based indie Red River Records and New York-based Red Parlor Records, with Red Parlor Records handling distribution via E One Distribution.

The digital re-release will also include a re-recording of Kasey Anderson’s “Don’t Look Back,” found on 2007′s “The Reckoning” (Red River Records), this time recorded with The Honkies and produced by Pete Droge. (See a live version of Kasey Anderson performing “Don’t Look Back” at SxSW for MusicFog.com – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_o6jVrlsFc

The album’s first single, “The Wrong Light,” has a music video that can be viewed at: http://vimeo.com/20160548?ab

Kasey Anderson did a Daytrotter session for Heart of a Dog, seen here: http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/kasey-anderson-concert/20032242-37382272.html

Red Parlor Records will assist in the promotion and marketing of Heart of a Dog, including taking the record to AAA, college, and rock radio, and marketing it to brick and mortar retail.

More information on Kasey Anderson & The Honkies and Heart of a Dog:

Comprised of Kasey Anderson (vocals, guitar, percussion), Andrew KcKeag (guitar, vocals), Eric Corson (bass), and Mike Musburger (drums), Kasey Anderson & The Honkies bring a wealth of a “who’s who” of Northwest rock to their latest offering. McKeag has spent time in Presidents of the United States of America and The Long Winters, Corson in The Long Winters and, of course, Musburger from The Fastbacks, Young Fresh Fellows, The Posies, The Supersuckers, and countless other cult Seattle power-pop and indie-rock bands.

Heart of a Dog, which was produced by Kasey Anderson and The Honkies and Jordan Richter, features guest appearances by The Decemberists’ Jenny Conlee (accordion), Richmond Fontaine’s Dave Harding (bass), and several other friends and fellow Northwest musicians.

With all this going for it, it is no surprise that Heart of a Dog has allowed Anderson to move beyond the “roots-rock” or “alt. country” tags he’s previously been welcomed with, and make the rock record he’s envisioned for quite some time.

“I was tired of playing solo shows and I was even more tired of the words ‘roots rock,’” Anderson says by way of explanation. “I just wanted to make a rock ‘n’ roll record.”

Comprised of ten tracks that cannot be mistaken for anything other than rock ‘n’ roll. From the sinister riff of the album’s opening track, “The Wrong Light,” to the barroom piano of the plaintive closer, “For Anyone,” Heart of a Dog captures an energy that Anderson insists can come only when “everybody’s in the same room, at the same time.”

To further ensure that each song carried its own immediacy, Anderson who made his first foray into the producer’s chair on Heart of a Dog refused to play guitar while tracking with his band. “The natural tendency of any ‘backing band’ is to follow the lead of the guy who wrote the songs, especially when he’s got a guitar,” Anderson says. “I wanted to let the band dictate the groves.”

McKeag, a veteran of the Seattle music scene for nearly two decades (with service in The Supersuckers, The Long Winters, and Presidents of the USA to his credit), handles the responsibility ably, filling Heart of a Dog with an impressive array of guitar work, from the Stonesy swagger of “Mercy” to the bluesy, Waitsian stomp of “Revisionist History Blues.” Even the album’s more somber material “Your Side of Town” and “My Blues, My Love” feature sprawling, atmospheric guitar. “Heart of a Dog” bears the same beautifully literate lyricism that has become a hallmark of Anderson’s work but, in allowing room for McKeag and The Honkies to shine, Anderson has opened up sonic possibilities left unexplored on his previous albums.

Once the band had finished tracking, Anderson invited friends by the studio to, as he says, “play whatever they wanted so long as it was interesting.” Ralph Huntley (Richmond Fontaine), Jenny Conlee (The Decemberists), Garth Klippert (Old Light), Lewi Longmire (Blue Giant), and David Lipkind (I Can Lick Any SOB in the House) all dropped in, leaving Anderson with “more good noise than [he] knew what to do with.”

As Anderson and co-producer/engineer Jordan Richter sorted through all of the “good noise,” they found one very interesting common thread: laughter. “There was somebody laughing at the end of every take, no matter how good or bad,” Anderson says. “Not nervous or embarrassed laughter. Excited laughter; people having fun. We left some of it in. If people listen to this record as loud as I want them to, they’ll hear it.”

By C.W. Ross

Memphis Crawl was formed back in the summer of 2004 but are just now releasing their debut effort, the 4-track EP, ‘Falling Down Against the Sun.’ What that tells me is that this band must put on a killer live show.

As I listened to their music I could imagine the band playing in a slightly run down working man’s bar whipping the crowd into a mild frenzy with their blend of rock/blues music.

Band lead vocalist and songwriter Matty O’Brien has the perfect raspy sounding vocals, like that of someone who’s spent more then a few years pounding down shots of Jack Daniels followed by a cigarette chaser. O’Brien isn’t alone though, he’s supported by the talents of lead guitarist Bryan Stevens, bassist Mad Freik, rhythm guitarist Nick Vincenti and drummer Mike Vincenti.

Memphis Crawl doesn’t waste any time getting the party started with the up tempo, big guitars and drum filled southern rock track-1, “Wildflower Annie.”

Track’s 2 (“Howlin’ in Blue”) & 3, (“Skeletons in Time”), have a slightly retro rock and blues sound found on them.

The EP’s closing track, “Wintertime,” also worked well with its big lead and nice backing vocals along with its lively guitars and steady drum work.

If you can’t see Memphis Crawl live the next best thing is to get their, ‘Falling Down Against the Sun’ EP and enjoy their masterful rock/blues style of music.

BAND PREPS DEBUT ALBUM – LETTERS FROM THE FIRE FOR SEPTEMBER 20TH RELEASE

FIRST SINGLE – “ The Edge” – AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE NOW

*** 2011 U.S. TOUR WITH FUEL CONFIRMED! DATES FORTHCOMING ***
(The band FUEL has announced that Park Lane will be joining them on a national U.S. tour later this year.)

It was fate that ultimately united rock band Park Lane with lead singer Carley Coma, formerly of Candiria – a groundbreaking group in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s that found itself on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of their Top 10 Metal Bands. Hailing from the streets of Brooklyn New York, Candiria was highly respected in the metal scene for their genre-bending ways. The core members of Park Lane, who are all based in the Bay Area, were not familiar with Candiria, but were instantly convinced of a perfect fit when they met Carley Coma.

Park Lane began in 2007, while Keller and guitarist Grayson Hurd were in high school together. The band continued through their collegiate careers, with Hurd recently graduating from St. Mary’s with a business degree. Ready to record a new album and minus a vocalist, Park Lane put out a national APB looking for a singer – as soon as Coma sent the first demo of his vocals, the group agreed, ‘That’s our guy,’” Keller revealed. For Carley, it was as though a lengthy search had ended for him as well. Despite his successes with Candiria, he was looking for a new kind of musical soul mate. “I heard the songs and instantly connected to them. I fell in love with the music and knew that I had to be part of this, one way or another,” he said. Letters From the Fire cycles through a range of mood and emotions, from raucous rockers to more refined, alt hard rock gems. “The Edge” kicks off the album and centers on a sensitive, serious and universally relatable topic of wanting a way out. “Lyrically, one of the things that popped up a lot in my mind while making this record was people who were at the brink wanting to end their life because of the pressures that come with living. It’s about holding on at your darkest moment and not giving up” said Carley.

By C.W. Ross

When the Toronto, Canada based band Morning Fame contacted me about their music in their message they said that, “…Right now we are in the process of contacting labels and management companies because we believe that our songwritting is solid.”

After listening to their 5-song EP, ‘A Lasting Place,’ I think that it won’t be long until they find a label to call home. As each of the EP’s five tracks filled my speakers up I kept thinking to myself that this is some really good music.

The band’s sound is driven by its guitars (Joe Liranzo-guitar, Donald Colaco-bass) and drum (Alan Dennis) parts with vocals (Vik Kapur) that melt into the mix creating a tight sound that makes for an enjoyable listening experience.

I also liked the bands use of building starts that they used on several of their songs letting the guitars and drum work lay a solid foundation before the vocals joined in on the fun.

As for any favorite tracks? They all worked well for me; like the strong guitar solo found on “Blinded,” or the rapid drum work found on, “Time.” Maybe it’s the vocals found on the ballad sounding track, “Long Time Waiting.”

With what I heard from Morning Fame’s ‘A Lasting Place’ EP I can see a very bright future ahead for them.

The EP’s official release date is set for September.

Hot off the heels of a successful residency at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas and several live dates in Amsterdam, Terraplane Sun will play a show at Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles on Thursday, September 29th.

The Venice, California-based blues rock outfit, which features Ben Rothbard on vocals and guitar, Johnny Zambetti on lead guitar and mandolin, Cecil on bass, Lyle Riddle on drums and Gabe Feenberg on piano, accordion and trombone, will perform several songs from their ambitious second album, “Coyote.” Recorded live in three days at their Venice rehearsal space, “Coyote” was released earlier this year to much critical acclaim.

While most L.A. bands inhabit the eastside, rehearsing and recording in Echo Park, Hollywood and Silver Lake, Terraplane Sun is very proud of their Westside roots. “The ocean doesn’t have to be associated with Jack Johnson,” says Ben. “It’s not all sunshine and potato chips. It has somewhat of an edge to it.” Johnny adds, “Venice is full of families and kids but then you make a left on Rose Avenue and it’s full-blown gangsters.” “And we’re more on the gangster side,” laughs Cecil.

Terraplane Sun splits their rehearsal time between Venice and Malibu, where they’ve honed in a sound that conveys a swampy southern delta feel as much as it does the “California Sound” of the 1960′s. All of the band members have a distinct musical background. Ben grew up on Motown and later began an overall obsession with Delta Blues and Blues artists in general (Robert Johnson, Son House, John Lee Hooker, Ali Farka Toure).

Johnny is “Pet Sounds” The Beatles and CSN, while both Lyle and Cecil have strong roots in punk and Motown. Gabe is the well-educated prodigy player of the band. This broad-based approach allows them to draw on a multitude of techniques that give the band their unique sound.

Terraplane Sun has been featured on several major television shows. “Is There A Way” was featured on the Showtime series “Nurse Jackie,” “Selfish Ways” was on FX’s show “Damages” and “Bloodshot Eyes” and “Hey Rat” were featured on FX’s show “The League.” Most recently, their song “Trouble” was picked up as the theme song for the new A&E show “Relapse.”

In addition to playing live gigs and sharing the stage with artists including Fitz and the Tantrums, Robert Randolph and The Family Band and Foster the People, the band are working on a new EP in advance of their third full-length album. “Our last album was really raw and organic. While definitely maintaining that approach, we’ve naturally progressed as a band and it will show on our next record,” says Ben. “If people are expecting what came from the last album, they might be surprised,” adds Cecil.

We have some exciting news from Brite Futures! They have a new album coming out on 11/1/11 and they just released a sneak peak track for your listening pleasure!

Fans can download the new track, “Baby Rain” from the band’s website or at the link below:

https://www.facebook.com/#!/BriteFutures?sk=app_243248579031223

The new album from Seattle’s fun-loving quartet Brite Futures, is a youthful swaggering mix of synth-happy pop, rock, funk, disco, and New Wave that the band likes to describe as “punk rock Abba disco Osmonds with chainsaws.” It challenges the notion that irresistible pop can only be peddled by solo artists propped up by big-name songwriters and major labels. It’s game on in Fall 2011 for these pop, indie-minded twenty-somethings when the band releases their new album mixed by Eliot James (Two Door Cinema Club, Kaiser Chiefs) later this year.

You can check out Brite Futures interview for their upcoming performance at Seattle’s Bumbershoot Music Festival!

NEW VIDEO FOR THE BAND’S SONG “I DREAM OF BEES”

Yours Until the Bitter End is The Bloody Hollies’ follow-up to the highly praised Who to Trust, Who to Kill, Who to Love which was released in 2007 on Alive Naturalsound. Many who are familiar with the band’s sound know them by their trademark murder-themed blues/rock anthems that remind listeners of the ’60s and ’70s golden age of rock & roll. The new album still embraces the dark side of raw garage punk, but comes armed with a more eclectic array of songwriting and musicianship. But don’t let the touches of organ, violin and xylophone fool you, the band’s hybrid of blues and rock & roll continue to shine more impressively than ever. The Bloody Hollies recorded in San Diego, but enlisted the expertise of Jim Diamond in Detroit, a familiar friend of the band that helped bring the sound of this record to its full potential.

Yours Until the Bitter End is a work that reflects a lengthy career that fully embraces The Bloody Hollies’ vast influences while at the same time maintaining the quartet’s unique sound of explosive, over-driven mayhem balanced with intelligently thought-out songwriting. What is most impressive about The Bloody Hollies, however, is the diversity of their strengths, ranging from ’70s classic rock, Americana blues, to an even power-pop songwriting style. Wesley Doyle’s voice is stronger than ever and continues to shine, complimenting Joseph Horgen’s unique slide blues guitar style. The rhythm section of Matthew Bennett (drums) and Erik Noorgard (bass guitar) are as solid as ever and work together perfectly on this record which will go down as The Bloody Hollies’ most impressive to date.

Yours Until the Bitter End comes out September 13th through Alive Records and will available on CD Digipack, Digital Download and Red Colored Vinyl ltd. to 700.
